Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 5, 2026

Introduction

Wayday ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Location Data

Wayday records your GPS coordinates to map your walking route during trip recording. The app uses background location tracking to continuously record your route even when the app is not in the foreground. Background location tracking is active only during an active trip and stops when you end the trip. Location data is stored locally on your device by default.

Photo Library

Wayday accesses your camera roll to import photos for trip mapping. We read EXIF metadata (GPS coordinates, timestamps) from your photos to automatically place them at the correct location on the map. Photo data is stored locally on your device by default.

Health Data

Wayday reads step count and walking distance from Apple HealthKit (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) to display activity summaries per trip. This access is read-only. Health data is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, never sold, and is only displayed within the app as part of the trip health summary. If you deny health data permission, the health summary card will show as unavailable, but all other features continue to work normally.

Local Data Storage

All trip data, routes, photos, and health summaries are stored locally on your device using SQLite (Drift) database. This is the default and primary storage. Your data remains on your device and is not automatically uploaded to any server.

Cloud Sync (Premium Feature)

Premium subscribers may optionally enable cloud sync, which stores trip data and photos in Firebase Cloud Firestore and Firebase Storage. Cloud sync is entirely optional and requires explicit activation by the user.

Third-Party Services

Firebase Authentication: Used for account management when cloud sync is enabled. Processes your sign-in credentials according to Google's Privacy Policy.

Firebase Cloud Firestore & Storage: Used for cloud backup and cross-device sync (premium feature only). Trip data and photos are stored in Google's cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest.

Firebase Crashlytics: Collects crash reports and diagnostic data to improve app stability. Data collected includes crash logs, device model, OS version, and app state. No personal trip data is included in crash reports.

PostHog Analytics: Collects anonymized usage analytics to help us improve the app experience. Data collected includes app events, device information, and app version. No personal data such as trip content, photos, or health data is sent to PostHog.

Mapbox: Provides map rendering within the app. Mapbox may collect telemetry data including IP address and device information. See Mapbox Privacy Policy for details.

RevenueCat: Manages in-app subscriptions. Processes subscription status and purchase receipts. See RevenueCat Privacy Policy for details. We do not have access to your payment details.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Data is shared only with the service providers listed above, solely for the purpose of providing app functionality.

User Consent

The app requests separate permissions for location access, photo library access, and health data access. Each permission can be granted or denied independently. You can change permissions at any time through your device settings. Denying a permission will disable the related feature but will not affect other app functionality.

Data Security

Local data is protected by your device's built-in security features. Cloud data (premium) is encrypted in transit using TLS and protected by Firebase Security Rules. We do not have direct access to your personal data.

Data Retention & Deletion

Local data remains on your device until you:

Premium users with cloud sync enabled can request cloud data deletion by contacting us at [email protected].

Children's Privacy

Wayday is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
